Standing proudly on the north bank of the Humber Estuary, Fort Paull has guarded one of Britain’s most important waterways for over 150 years. Originally built in the 1860s as part of the nation’s coastal defence network, the fort played a vital role through both World Wars, protecting the Humber from potential enemy attack. Over the decades, it evolved with changing military technology before eventually becoming a museum, preserving its remarkable military heritage.

Fort Paull has also earned a reputation as one of East Yorkshire’s most haunted locations. Staff, visitors, and paranormal investigators have reported unexplained footsteps echoing through empty corridors, shadowy figures seen in the gun emplacements, mysterious voices, and sudden drops in temperature. Many believe the spirits of former soldiers and those connected to the fort’s long and often turbulent past still linger within its walls
